CSP00/003
Mr Simon McKeon, the President of the Corporations and Securities Panel today said that he was delighted to welcome seventeen new members to the Panel. He said that he was particularly pleased at the quality of the new appointees. (see details attached)
The new members were appointed by the Governor-General on Wednesday 8 March, on the recommendation of the Minister for Financial Services and Regulation, Mr Joe Hockey M.P. Their period of appointment is for three years. The members have all been appointed as part time members.
Mr McKeon said that the Government's appointments were very timely with the Panel having a substantially expanded role from Monday 13 March. From that date, the Panel will be the primary dispute resolution forum for a takeover during the life of the bid.
Mr McKeon also said that he was pleased to announce that the Panel had leased premises in Melbourne, at
Level 47, Nauru House
80 Collins Street
Melbourne.
He said that the Panel's Executive, which is based in Melbourne, would be moving into the new premises in the next few weeks.
Mr McKeon also announced that the Panel will open its new web site on Monday. He said that he expects www.takeovers.gov.au will become an important information source for takeovers practitioners around Australia. It will deal with many aspects of the Panel's operations and takeovers regulation generally.
