CSP00/004
Mr Peter Lee, Deputy Director General of the London Takeover Panel, spoke with the executive and President of the Corporations and Securities Panel (CSP) and local takeover practitioners today.
Mr Lee is in Australia as a guest of the CSP and of the Securities Institute of Australia, to give evidence to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Securities on the operation of the mandatory bid rule under the City Code.
His visit coincides with the commencement of the Corporate Law Economic Reform Program Act and with the start up of the CSP's new functions. Mr Lee inspected the CSP's new premises at Nauru House, Collins Street, Melbourne.
At lunch with takeover practitioners and corporate guests, Mr Lee took questions about the operation and policy of the London Panel which has been in existence for more than 30 years. He will have private meetings with a number of Panel members this week. CSP numbers were last week increased from 11 to 28 by a fresh round of appointments.
Simon McKeon, Executive Director of Macquarie Bank and President of the CSP, said that "Mr Lee's visit was very opportune and that the CSP executive and members would benefit from Mr Lee's considerable experience with the London Panel".
